Gari Cappelli, Minister of Tourism of the Croatian Government elected in October 2016, graduated at the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Rijeka in 1984. From 2005 until 2016, his professional career includes the following position – Mayor of Mali Lošinj and President of the Tourist Board of Mali Lošinj. He worked as the Managing Board President of Adriatic Luxury Services in Dubrovnik and a Consul for Economic Affairs at the Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in the Italian Republic in Trieste. He was also working as the general manager of the RI Adria Bank branch in Mali Lošinj and as a director and founder of the Cappelli Travel Agency. He speaks English, German and Italian fluently.
During his work at the position of the Mayor of Mali Lošinj, he induced many activities regarding the destination management development at the island of Lošinj, Croatia as well as the Lošinj archipelago as a year-round destination. During Mr. Cappelli mandate, the Tourist Board in Mali Lošinj became an affiliate member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and a full member of the UNWTO Knowledge Network. In 2015 Mali Lošinj received the prestigious World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Award for the project “Fragrances and Flavours of Lošinj” at the category of innovations in the area of public policies and governance.
